We’ll Fix What Ails Your Chimney
One of the reasons we love this line of work so much is because it is never boring. The CSIA-certified technicians at The Fireplace Service Company work with chimneys, fireplaces and stoves of all ages and materials, and in our more than three decades serving the communities of northeastern AL, northwestern GA, and south central TN, we think it’s safe to say there’s nothing chimney-related that we have not encountered and repaired.
Beyond sweepings and inspections, we also complete numerous types of repairs to the interior and exterior of the chimney. Each of these repairs is designed to keep water out, extend the life of the chimney, and minimize fire risk. Some of our most common repairs are detailed below.
We reline chimneys. An unlined chimney is like a knight without armor. We recommend—and all major fire safety organizations agree—that every chimney be lined, and every liner be kept in good condition. This will help reduce your risk of chimney fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
We apply HeatShield®. If your chimney liner is deteriorating, a complete relining may not be necessary. We often use, and stand behind, a product called HeatShield®, which can effectively repair and resurface many chimney flues.
We handle masonry repair. Our trained chimney masons can likely patch up your existing chimney, whether it’s the brick or the mortar that has seen better days. We complete these repairs with attention paid first and foremost to the structural integrity of your chimney, but we are also pros at crafting stylish masonry chimneys.
We install and repair crowns. A chimney crown will protect and seal the top of your masonry chimney, keeping rainwater out by directing it away from the flue and onto your roof. Over time, some crowns crack, chip, or deteriorate. In many cases, we are able to repair existing crowns, though we can also craft an all-new crown that will be built to last.
Though we prefer to do preventive work, we are often asked when repairing damage already done, whether this is water damage or harm done by a chimney fire. If you have a problem with your chimney, we will tell you this: it’s best not to ignore it. It won’t go away on its own but will only grow worse with time. And by worse, we mean more dangerous and more expensive.
